SIX SENSES SPAS
Crazy for Coco
Harvesting the goodness of coconuts for everyday health and beauty regimes at Six Senses Spa Koh Kood, Thailand.
Use it to cook, moisturize skin, de-frizz hair, remove makeup, treat eczema, clean teeth, as a natural SPF 10 sunscreen or even as protection against sand flies: it’s easier to ask what coconut oil can’t do for you than what it can!
Extracting virgin organic oil from fallen coconuts is a fun job, one undertaken by our hosts at Six Senses Spa Koh Kood in Thailand. They begin by de-husking, splitting and removing the white meat from the coconut, then soaking it in water before hand squeezing the fluid out. This liquid elixir can then be distilled and carefully bottled.
Exfoliator
For a body scrub, mix three tablespoons of oil with a tablespoon of brown sugar. Don’t forget your feet; after a gentle pumice exfoliation, rub in the oil and slip on a pair of socks overnight.
Conditioner
Apply to damp or dry hair and massage the oil into the scalp (even better if someone massages it for you), wait 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. You can use a small amount as a leave-in conditioner.
Facemask
If you’re skeptical about cleaning your face with coconut oil, don’t be. Mix 2 tsp coconut oil with 1.5 tsp organic honey and cool until it hardens slightly. Apply the facemask using small circular strokes, and leave on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing. Honey has strong antibacterial and antiviral properties, making it great for soothing inflammation.
Fitness drink
In addition to slathering your body with coconut oil, the natural liquid from young fruit can be used as an ideal alternative fitness drink. With less than 40 calories per 250ml serving, it contains natural electrolytes, minerals, potassium and magnesium. It’s a great source of easily digested carbohydrates and is 95 percent hydrating water.
